Hypothesis
The effect of father death on child survival will be much smaller than the effect of mother death (5).
Note
8 of the 15 populations (53%) for which there was sufficient data showed that there is no association between the death of the father and the death of the child. The effect in all other populations was marginal. (Hypothesis tested by observing the proportion of previous studies with the hypothesized effect. No formal statistical test)
