Testing for Divergent Transmission Histories among Cultural Characters: A Study Using Bayesian Phylogenetic Methods and Iranian Tribal Textile Data

Hypothesis

There is not a core tradition of characters in Iranian tribal textile traditions; instead, the various cultural units with their set of characters ('pile-weave design') have different transmission histories.

Note

Authors suggest that market trade influenced 'pile-weave design' characters to become a coherent cultural component with a unique transmission history. 'Pile-weave designs' are expected to produce a unique tree topology instead of having different evolutionary rates.
