Hypothesis
Societies in which there is a large sex difference in the degree to which certain traits (obedience, industry, and responsibility) are emphasized in childhood will be positively associated with the occurrence of initiation ceremonies (139).
Note
The differences for boys are statistically significant for obedience (Chi square=4.67, df=1, p<.05), industry (Chi square=6.30, df=1, p<.05), and responsibility (Chi square=6.85, df=1, p<.01). The differences in girls are all in the same direction but much smaller and not statistically significant.
