Hypotheses
- "The more the young males in a society are disciplined by males, the more likely is that society to emphasize male deities" (45).Carroll, Michael P. - The sex of our gods, 1979 - 2 Variables
This study tests several hypothesis about predictors of male or female gods. Results suggest a relationship between relative emphasis on female deities and rule of descent.

This study tests predictions of homosexuality. Results suggest that homosexuality is significantly associated with father-son contact.
Related Hypotheses Cite More By Author - "There should be an observed correlation between a relatively high prevalence of homosexuality and the presence of an institutionalized police force, but this correlation should disappear once degree of father contact is introduced as a control" (264).Carroll, Michael P. - Freud on homosexuality and the super-ego: some cross-cultural tests, 1978 - 3 Variables
This study tests predictions of homosexuality. Results suggest that homosexuality is significantly associated with father-son contact.
Related Hypotheses Cite More By Author - "Monogamy is significantly related to a greater degree of societal complexity than is polygyny. . . . The organizational pattern most characteristic of polygynous societies can be noted as relatively intermediate in complexity rather than very simple" (15)Osmond, Marie W. - Toward monogamy: a cross-cultural study of correlates of type of marriage, 1965 - 2 Variables
This study presents a sociological theory of marriage type based on socioeconomic organization. Results suggest that intensive agriculture, more stratification, greater political integration, a fixed settlement pattern, a larger population, and greater labor specialization tended to be correlates of monogamy.

This article examines three theories regarding the existence of pollution rules. Results show support for a psychological theory put forward by Freud that predicts a relationship between father-child contact, post-partum sex taboos, and menstrual taboos.
Related Hypotheses Cite More By Author - The cultural differences in the extent to which physical punishment is employed in socialization is related to cultural differences in the extent to which conformity and self-reliance are differentially valued (132-133).Petersen, Larry R. - Social structure, socialization values, and disciplinary techniques: a cross..., 1982 - 6 Variables
This article focuses on the relationship between the use of physical punishment during child socialization and the amount of supervision that adults experience. The authors analyze data using a path analysis which suggests that the greater the valuation of conformity relative to self-reliance, the greater the use of physical punishment during child socialization. Precursors of conformity are also suggested.
